Day 6 - December 22nd - The Royal Danish Opera House

Earlier in the month, we had all bought tickets to Romeo and Juliet at The Royal Danish Opera House. We had read the play in Ms. Whitsett's English class and were really excited to see it performed. The show started at 8:00 p.m. so we had all day to spend in town.
We woke up around 10:00 a.m. and had breakfast in our hotel again. Then, around noon, we left to explore the streets of Copenhagen. We slowly walked in the toward the Havnebussen Ferry that we would need to take to the Royal Opera House. It took us about 2 hours to reach the ferry; we had taken a lot of time to look in shops and we stopped for lunch along the way. We ate at Told Og Snaps, a restaurant known for its traditional Danish food and paintings on the wall. We all enjoyed are meal and continued toward the ferry. We spent a lot of time in a souvenir shop, Copenhagen Souvenirs. After we paid $25.15 for our ‘I love Copenhagen’ sweatshirts, we headed to the Havnebussen Ferry to take us to the Operaen.
Cultural Event:
When we get off, it is almost 4:00 p.m. So, we walked around the island and, as we passed "Copenhagen Street Food", we got a snack from several different food vendors with various dishes. As we walked back, it was almost time for Romeo and Juliet to begin. We showed our tickets and found our seats. We all really liked the performance and understood the story even better!

Day 5- December - 21st Tivoli Gardens

Natural Environment Event:
Today has been extraordinary! After we had all gotten some rest, we went down to the cafe at 10:00 a.m. for breakfast. We spent an hour talking about and all the fun we had been having, and how excited we are for our upcoming activities. After a great meal, we took a short walk to Tivoli Gardens, one of Denmark's most visited attractions. The weather was very cold, so we all had dressed warmly. It was about 36 degrees Fahrenheit, but with the sun shining, it felt about 40 degrees.
At 1:00 p.m., we decided to go eat lunch. Not far from the gardens, was a Caribbean themed restaurant called "Pirateriet" which we all decided was a good choice. Alex just had a hamburger, but everyone else tried some of the chicken and salad dishes. Once we finished our meals, we headed back to Tivoli  to explore from 2 to 5 o'clock.
There were so many decorations and dedicated actors to watch, and we all had so much fun seeing all of the beautiful scenery that the gardens had to offer.
Science and Technology Event:
Before we completely got lost in the gardens, we left to go to the Tycho Brahe Planetarium, where we stayed until about 8:00 p.m. We learned and saw amazing things about our universe that we had never known before. After we all had our fun, we headed back toward the hotel to try out a diner for a late dinner. Before we knew it, the cooks had let us back into the kitchen and let us help prepare our own food! It was a great dinner to say the least. To top it off, it was just a short walk to our rooms, where we all went to sleep easily, exhausted from another amazing day in Denmark.

In The Century of Communication room we get to see the first telegraph made in Denmark. In the stamp exhibition we see all different kinds of stamps used back in the 18th century.
After going through the museum, we go and eat at the cafe, Café Hovedtelegrafen, at the top on the building at around 12:15. This cafe is described as lunch with a view because it overlooks the Copenhagen city. Each meal costs about $20. We eat for about 45 minutes and then start walking back to the hotel.

We get to the hotel and relax there for about 30 minutes before we get ready to go to our next activity for the day, the Copenhagen Zoo! We walk to the end of the block and get on the M2 to take a twenty minute train ride to the zoo. Once we get there at around 2:00, we each pay $27 for each of our tickets. This zoo has many different animals for us to look at. For example, they have reptiles, fish, amphibians, mollusks, mammals, birds, and arthropods. Our favorite animal is the Red-necked Wallaby. It looks like a kangaroo with no neck. We get to see it jump and waddle around it's exhibit.
After looking at all the animals, we go to the cafe in the zoo for dinner at around 5:00. We eat at one of the fast food concession stands for an hour and then decide to get back on the M2 to go back to the hotel. It was a great day in Denmark.

Day 2 - December 18th - Getting to Copenhagen

After a long night on the plane, we land in London to get on a connecting flight to the capital city of Denmark. We have a three hour layover in the London Heathrow Airport. Giraffe, a popular breakfast restaurant at the airport, is where we all decide to stop for a meal before getting on our next flight. Afterwards, we sit in our terminal and begin to talk about all of the places we would like to go when we get to Copenhagen!
Culture event:
Around 10:00 a.m., we board the plane from London to Copenhagen. This flight only took three hours, so we quickly enjoyed more pretzels and nuts. By 12:50 p.m., we safely land at the Copenhagen Airport. Since we have no car to take us to our hotel, we take the metro, M2, to the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel. After we check-in and unpack, we decide to go to our first destination on the trip; an experience to introduce us to the culture of Denmark. Around 3:00 p.m., we take a five minute walk to the Ny Carlsberg Glypotek Art Museum. . This museum was free for anyone who is under eighteen years old. We enjoy the diverse culture through the ancient and modern works of art. Alex's favorite painting was called “View from a Window in Eckersbergs Studio of a Wing of Charlottenborg” by the artist Christen Købke.
We stay until the museum closes at 5:00 p.m. We start to walk toward the hotel and we stop for dinner on the way. After eating at a nice restaurant called gorm's i Magstræde, we return to the hotel to go to bed early. We need to be ready for another day in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark!

It was interesting because we got to see new things and Mary Kate got to experience her first plane ride with her best friends! We got on the plane at 6:10 PM at the Raleigh/Durham International (RDU) Airport.
The airport was not busy because we were on an overnight flight.  During the overnight flight to London, we keep ourselves occupied until we go to sleep. We watch  The Fault in Our Stars, Alex starts bawling. After we watch the movie we eat some pretzels and nuts while drinking some Sprite. After we eat our snacks, we decide to go to sleep because we have a big day ahead of us. We are all extremely excited to get to Denmark!
